The Challenge, Day 1

Today was the day that I began my 7 day journey without technology. (Other than having to use my computer to blog and do other homework). Thursday night I gave my cell phone to my roommate to hold while I am doing the challenge. He had to have it so I wasn’t tempted to use it, and incase my parents or my boss calls me. It was weird waking up today without looking at my phone to see what kind of texts I had gotten from ESPN. I have an account with ESPN that lets me get text messages about my favorite teams and the latest news and sports. Every morning I get up before class and check my emails while having ESPN on, but not today. I felt like I was forgetting something as I left for class. As the day has been going on it has been getting easier, other than when my roommate tells me that I have thirty five unread messages. But I think the rest of today will be a success. I plan on going to play pool and ping pong later so that should keep me busy. I also have a few books that I got from my father that I could read. The books titles are 90 Minutes in Heaven and The Shack. I love to play all sorts of board games too. My roommate and I play backgammon. We might play some monopoly this weekend with both of our girlfriends, so that should be fun. It should also keep us occupied for a few hours. This challenge is going to be really hard for me this coming week because I am an avid Duke fan and I also watch Minute to Win it on Wednesday and Supernatural every Friday. Hopefully I can get through it without breaking the challenge.

  1. Haha, I have no started the challenge but can't say I'm entirely looking forward to it. I will definately have to give my phone to my roommate to stop the temptation =P Hopefully I can complete the challenge without breaking it but it is definately going to be hard. This coming week is going to be a good week for me to give it up though since I have plenty of tests to study for. Good luck!

  2. That's a good idea. I'd have to have my roommate hide it from me so I wouldn't be tempted. I would have to tell my roommate to not tell me about how many messages I had. That would completely drive me insane! 90 minutes in heaven is a really good book, just so you know. See I think that would be the thing that would suck most..having a boyfriend and not being able to text or call them. That would drive me insane! But good luck and I have faith that you'll make it through okay!

  3. Good job man! Keep up the good work! I think it is cool how you knew you would be tempted by the phone, so you gave it up to someone else. I don't think it would be so hard for me to give up my phone because I don't tend to use it so often and I didn't even have a cell phone till after I graduated from High School. Some days I find it a nuisance, especially when I don't want to talk to people. Sometimes I just shut it off completely and say no phone today.
