Security vs Privacy

In many ways we do not have full privacy like we did when we did not have as advanced technology as we do now. As technology advanced privacy lessened. The government can track everything about everyone. It is not hard at all for someone to find where you live and find out who you are with what the internet has turned into today. There are security cameras everywhere. We have to be careful about what we do in public because many of us know that we are being watched. I do agree with the fact that they have security cameras in public. I think that it prevents a lot of crime from happening, and if they need to catch someone that has done something wrong in the future they can look back on cameras and find the perpetrater. After 9/11 security has really heightened in the United States. The government does not want something like that to happen ever again. I think that security is  a good thing, just not the extent of what it is in 1984. Privacy does exist. We all have the privacy in our own homes.

In 1984 the way that they have security is way too over the top. They have telescreens that watch the people, and the children of the country watch over their parents to find out if they are committing thought crimes. This is a terrible thing to have. By Big Brother having all of these security measures I believe that it shows weakness in him. I think that he is truly scared that the people are going to over run him, that is why he has to always keep watch on everyone. He shows many similarities to Hitler, but if Hitler thought someone was against him he would kill them on the spot.

  1. I can make your last post all about America by changing a few words:

In America, the way that they have security is way too over the top. They have surveillance cameras that watch the people, and the CIA and FBI agencies of the country watch over their citizens to find out if they are committing terrorist acts. This is a terrible thing to have. By America having all of these security measures I believe that it shows weakness in them. I think that the government is truly scared that the people are going to over run them, that is why they have to always keep watch on everyone. They shows many similarities to the NAZIs, but if Hitler thought someone was against him he would kill them on the spot.

I hope that makes you think about the state of privacy in the United States. We are in an ever decreasing state of privacy where eventually we will have to sacrifice all our freedoms for security. Then there will be nothing that separates our country from that of Oceania in 1984. Just food for thought...

  2. Your right there are cameras all over the place, but not in all public places, we still have privacy in restrooms and in fitting rooms. They haven't gotten in that much. And we also have privacy in our homes, that's one place I'm sure they'll never get into.

  3. I still think we have privacy in most places, except places where it could harm workers or a large number of Americans. You may call us scared or just smart. Yea you may think the cameras are terrible but to be realistic we are forced to have things like this or we are allowing other countries to walk all over us. Think about how long it took for us to regain strength after 9/11. If we hadn't increased security in places like airports we would continuously be beaten down and never given the chance to rebuild ourselves. I do not think we are being scared I think we are just being smart in certain areas. If we would be putting cameras in our houses and etc. that is over the top but when it comes to national security as a whole it's just smart and at times a necessity.
